Discussion of the results of the project implemented with the support of the International Governance and Risk Institute
In partnership with the Commission on the Ethics of High Ranking Officials (hereinafter the Commission), the International Governance and Risk Institute (GovRisk) organized an event on March 21 at the Grand Hotel Yerevan, which aimed at presenting the outcomes of the project financed by the Embassy of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland in Armenia
The project assisted the Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials in implementing its functions more effectively.
Her Excellency Judith Farnworth, the Ambassador of United Kingdom and Northern Ireland in Armenia, delivered opening remarks during the event and the speakers of the event were Arpine Hovhannisyan, Vice President of the National Assembly and the Head of Armenia-Great Britain Friendship Group and Siranush Sahakyan, Chairperson of the Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials. The anti-corruption advocates selected by the project presented the action plans to be implemented in the near future.
A reference to the measures taken towards the capacity building of the Commission was made during the event, as well as the current developments of the fight against corruption in Armenia was discussed. Particularly, the expertise support provided to the Commission by the project and the trainings for the Commission’s Staff, which related to the development of the asset and income declaration and declaration analysis systems, establishment and implementation of the conflict of interest regulations, as well as improvement of the public relations of the Commission were presented during the event.
During the event, the study visit to the state anti-corruption institutions (including National Assembly, the Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials, RA Ministry of Justice) and representatives of civil society organizations to learn the British best experience in the fight against corruption and the opportunity of its establishment in Armenia was presented.
Within the London meetings, the delegation members had discussions with the United Kingdom Government and civil society partners on the mechanisms of asset declaration, conflict of interest regulations, whistleblowers protection, as well as accountability of the public servants.
