THE REGIONAL SEMINAR ON “LEGISLATIVE TOOLKIT ON CONFLICT OF INTEREST” IN ISTANBUL

Edgar Shatiryan, a member of the Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials of Armenia, participated in the regional seminar on “Legislative toolkit on conflict of interests” organized within the scope of “Fight against corruption and fostering good governance; fight against money-laundering” project of Eastern Partnership and Council of Europe from October 15-16, 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey. The seminar intended to improve the legal mechanisms of conflict of interest prevention, to explore possible implementation of new tools and related international and regional best practices as well as to elaborate a model draft law based on the discussion results.
Officials and experts of anti-corruption agencies as well as representatives of international organizations of six Eastern Partnership countries took part in the event. Rationality of adopting a special law on conflict of interests as well as related topics of public and private interests, limitations and incompatible activities of public officials and other issues were discussed during the seminar. Special attention was attached to the issues of improving the legal toolkit for the prevention of conflict of interests of specific public officials’ groups (members of parliament and government, judges and prosecutors) while taking into account current international trends.
